Dear Members & Colleagues

We trust you enjoyed the holidays and wish you a successful 2006. Our event schedule is already underway with "Celebrating Women in the Judiciary" Cocktail Event on 23rd February, details below.

The major focus of this year is our participation in the inaugural Australian Women Lawyers Conference "Celebrating Excellence" to be held on 29 & 30 September 2006 at Sheraton on the Park in Sydney. The Hon. Mary Gaudron QC will be opening the conference with a speech titled "Equality: The Guarantee of Excellence". We are currently organising speakers who are all pre-eminent women lawyers in their field in the legal streams of Human Rights, Property and Finance, Litigation, and Corporate Governance. I look forward to your support of the conference and bringing you further updates.

Our online Find a Woman Lawyer database has already attracted over 1000 visits since its launch late 2005. Vive magazine is including a referral to 'Find a Woman Lawyer' in our regular legal feature page that is distributed nationally - February/March issue out now. So members, if you haven't already listed, now there is even more reason!

In memory of Jean Beverley HILL
Jean Hill was a founding member on the committee of WLANSW. She was admitted in 1943 and became a partner in the family law firm of Hill, Thomson & Sullivan, and retired a senior partner. Jean passed away on 1 February; the funeral will be held Tuesday 12.45pm 7 February in the West Chapel at Northern Suburbs Crematorium.
