Dear Members & Colleagues Congratulations to Justice Margaret Beazley in receiving an AO in the recent Queen's Birthday List. Her Honour has always been prepared to give her time and energy in assisting women lawyers and we note that she has been recognised for 'service to the advancement of women in the legal profession and the community' as well, of course, for service to 'the judiciary and the law'. We are also pleased to advise that the program is complete and registration is open for the inaugural Australian Women Lawyers conference to be held on Friday 29 & Saturday 30 September 2006 at Sheraton on the Park in Sydney. The Hon. Mary Gaudron QC will be opening the conference with a speech titled "Equality: The Guarantee of Excellence". View the extensive substantive law program in the streams of Human Rights, Corporate Governance, Property and Finance and Litigation on-line. The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Scholarships (Law) Closing Date: 31 August 2006 The Sir Robert Menzies Memorial Trust in London, with the support of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and the Menzies Foundation, offers to Australian post-graduate students 2 scholarships in Law tenable in the United Kingdom commencing October, 2007. The scholarship includes return fares and substantial emoluments which are not subject to United Kingdom income tax. It is tenable for one or two academic years. Academic excellence is of primary importance.The Selection Committee will seek individuals who are likely to attain prominence in Australia as demonstrated by their record of leadership, extra-curricular activities and interest in the service of others.
