Dear Members & Colleagues

With the festive season fast approaching we have some great networking functions providing opportunities to catch up with colleagues whilst picking up sound advice for personal and professional development. Don't miss our Christmas Shopping Day Fundraiser on Friday 30 November! Dates and details of our upcoming events are below for your diaries.

All members and their colleagues are welcome to join us next Friday 16 November with WLA patron, the Honourable Justice Jane Mathews AO, as we celebrate our Inaugural Golden Girls Lunch. This is a rare opportunity to meet with founding and Life Members of our Association. We encourage you to pass on  the details to your colleagues, particularly those that are retired and may not be on our current mailing list.

Our next Work2Suit Forum on Thursday 6 December will address the issue of technology and flexibility in the legal workplace. This is a current hot topic given  recent articles in the Australian in which Elizabeth Broderick, Sex Discrimination Commissioner and Fiona McLeod SC, AWL President are quoted:

Working from home is a component of flexible working arrangements for a growing number of solicitors. Those who wish to attract and retain the best staff need to consider the changing demands of employees and how they can best support the needs of the firm. Making it work requires careful planning, monitoring and feedback by both employer and employee.
What you will learn at this forum
For solicitors: Get practical advice on putting forward a proposal for using information technology to support working away from the office.
For employers/human resources managers: Find out what needs to be considered from the firm’s perspective when a solicitor proposes using information technology to support working away from the office.
