Women Lawyers Association of NSW

10 March 2008

Dear Members & Colleagues

Our 2008 Policy, Law Reform & Media Issues Subcommittee (Chaired by Tania Evers), held its first meeting on Tuesday 19 February 2008. The Subcommittee has identified the following general areas for WLA NSW to address this year:

• Research on the current position of women in the law and the factors affecting the career choices of women;
• Judicial appointments;
• Issues faced by Indigenous Women;
• Paid Maternity Leave;
• Mental Health;
• Other current issues that arise through government and non-government inquiries and the media.

The Subcommittee is keen to hear from members and colleagues with any ideas and comments on potential areas of policy and law reform that WLA NSW might consider addressing this year.

I invite you to provide your relevant comments and feedback to the Subcommittee by contacting Kathryn McKenzie, Executive Officer, at executive@womenlawyersnsw.org.au or on (02) 4392 1185.

The Subcommittee will be setting a date for its next meeting following the WLA NSW Committee Meeting on 11 March 2008. If you are interested in becoming involved with the Subcommittee, please contact Kathryn McKenzie, Executive Officer, at executive@womenlawyersnsw.org.au or on (02) 4392 1185.

Yours faithfully,

Lee-May Saw
President
